Cargo planning
Iron ore: dense cargo with strong draft and structural constraints
Iron ore is dense, so vessel selection is usually driven less by cubic capacity and more by parcel size, draft, structural loading limits, terminal capability and where suitable larger tonnage can trade efficiently.
What changes the planning class?
| Input | Planning effect |
|---|---|
| Parcel size | Larger stems can favour Panamax/Kamsarmax or Capesize assumptions where ports permit. |
| Draft | Can reduce actual intake materially below nominal DWT. |
| Structural limits | Actual vessel loading plan matters for a dense cargo. |
| Terminal size / productivity | Can decide whether a larger vessel is operationally sensible. |
Planning rule: use DWT as a first filter only; actual permissible intake and loading distribution must come from vessel and terminal particulars.
